Vinyl-a-Day 48: The Blades of Grass - “The Blades of Grass Are Not for Smoking” (Jubilee, 1967)

Underrated slice of sunshine pop with bright, vocal harmonies and baroque embellishment in their arrangements. Sadly, their version of “Happy” was eclipsed by The Sunshine Company’s and their version of “I Love You, Alice B. Toklas” was knocked out of the box by Harpers Bizarre. Nevertheless, both are given great treatments on the one LP the group left behind, which also includes a memorable cover of “Help” and an ethereal, haunting rendition of “Walk Away Renee.” I also got this copy on eBay in college not realizing it was an Argentinian pressing, but was pleasantly surprised when it was delivered. Highly recommend!
